Delaware Valley 71, Drew University 62
DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Freshman Mike Thornton notched 22 points and
10 rebounds to lead the Delaware Valley College men's basketball
team to a 71-62 victory over visiting Drew University in a Freedom
Conference game.
The win was the second in a row for the Aggies as they improved
to 3-9 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The team is now 3-5 since
Denny Surovec took over as head coach in December. The Rangers fell
to 2-8, 0-2 with the loss.
Thornton hit eight of 16 shots from the field, including a 5-for-8
showing from 3-point land. He hit his first four 3-point attempts
in the opening six minutes of the contest and finished the first
with five 3-pointers and 15 points.
Delaware Valley, as a team, connected on 9-of-15 shots from beyond
the arc in the first 20 minutes, including an Erik Tegethoff trey
at the buzzer to give the Aggies a 39-33 advantage. The Aggies built
the lead to as many as 12, 55-43, with 9:04 remaining, and Drew
never got closer than five points the rest of the way.
Freshman Javon Alston came off the bench to notch 12 points, eight
rebounds and four assists for Delaware Valley. Tegethoff, a junior,
finished the night with 11 points and fellow junior James Avant
scored nine points.
Nick Elmo and Leon Thomas had 12 points apiece to pace the Rangers
with Thomas also adding a game-high 14 rebounds. |
