Men's Basketball - 2002-03 Season

Delaware Valley 66, Villa Julie College 65
(Championship Game of Villa Julie Classic)

STEVENSON (MD) -- Tim Smink hit a free throw with one second left as Delaware Valley College downed Villa Julie College, 66-65, in the championship game of the Villa Julie Classic.

The win was the third in a row for the Aggies as they improve to 4-4 on the season while the Mustangs fell to 2-10.

Delaware Valley held a 65-59 lead with a minute to go and still held a 65-61 advantage in the final seconds. However with two seconds remaining, Dale Harris hit a 3-pointer for Villa Julie while being fouled. Harris then sank the free throw for an improbable four-point play and a 65-65 score.

The Aggies inbounded from underneath their own basket and connected on a breakaway pass to Tim Smink. The freshman was fouled from behind with one second remaining and he hit the first foul shot to give Delaware Valley a 66-65 lead. Smink missed the second free throw but it didn't matter as the Aggies had the victory and the tournament championship.

Sophomore guard Kevin Wolf was named the tournament Most Valuable Player as he followed up his 22-point performance from Saturday with 10 points, five rebounds and three steals. Fellow sophomore Randall Graves was also named to the all-tournament team as he scored 12 points and dished out a game-high six assists in the victory.

Sophomore center Josh Wurtz paced Delaware Valley with 21 points and eight rebounds. Smink finished with just three points but he had the biggest point of the game in the waning seconds.
