Geneseo State 70, Delaware Valley 61
(First Round of Dr. Kleppinger Tip-Off Classic at Alvernia College)
READING (PA) -- The Delaware Valley College men's basketball team
opened its 2002-03 season with a 70-61 loss to Geneseo State in
the opening round of the Dr. Kleppinger Tip-Off Classic hosted by
Alvernia College.
The Aggies will now play Salisbury State University in Saturday's
consolation game at 1:00 p.m.
The game marked the return of Bill Dooley to the Delaware Valley
sidelines. Dooley coached the Aggies from 1998 to 2000 before relocating
to Ireland for two years, where he became the Irish National Coach.
Dooley returned to the area this summer and returned to the Aggies
when Bob Simmons accepted an assistant's job at Division I Lehigh
University.
Geneseo State broke a 28-all halftime score with a 42-point, second-half
effort to defeat Delaware Valley by nine. The Aggies led 37-36 in
the opening moments of the second stanza as Josh Wurtz hit a basket
with 15:46 to go. However, Geneseo went on a 14-0 run to take command
of the game and the Aggies never got closer than seven points the
rest of the way.
Freshman Kevin Wright paced Delaware Valley with 12 points while
sophomores Kevin Wolf and Randall Graves added 11 and 10 points
respectively. Graves also had six assists and four steals. |
