FDU-Florham 78, Delaware Valley 66
DOYLESTOWN (PA) -- Delaware Valley College's comeback bid in the
second half fell short as the Aggies dropped a 78-66 decision to
visiting FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference game.
Delaware Valley (5-18, 0-13 Freedom) trailed by 15 at halftime
and then were down by 17 points, 53-36, with 13:47 remaining in
the contest. The Aggies then went on a 10-2 run, including four
points apiece by Tim Smink and Kevin Wright, to make it a nine-point
ballgame with 9:42 to go.
The Devils (11-13, 4-9) responded by scoring six of the next eight
points for a 13-point advantage, but back came Delaware Valley with
six straight - four by Josh Wurtz, to pull to within seven, 61-54,
with 5:48 remaining. However that was as close as the Aggies would
come.
Wright, a freshman forward, had a career night for Delaware Valley
with 25 points and 15 rebounds including 10 offensive boards. In
fact, he scored the team's first 12 points of the evening. Fellow
rookie Sean Smith added 11 points and seven rebounds while Wurtz
finished with nine points and four boards.
FDU-Florham, which shot 53.7 percent from the field, was led by
Jamaal Ford as the freshman notched 22 points, eight assists, five
rebounds and four steals. Jeff Hemschoot had 18 points and nine
rebounds while Brian McCauley chipped in with 16 poitns and seven
boards. |
