Delaware Valley College 14, Wilkes University

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - - Mike Isgro hit for the cycle, knocked in five
runs and got the win on the mound as Delaware Valley College opened
a crucial weekend with a 14-6 victory over visiting Wilkes University
in a Freedom Conference game.
The win lifted the Aggies to 21-10 overall, 6-5 and second place
in the conference. The three-game series with the Colonels (15-11,
5-6) will now shift to Wilkes-Barre for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Delaware Valley then has a makeup doubleheader at Freedom newcomer
and current front-runner Manhattanville College (17-10, 7-4) on
Sunday.
Isgro notched a single, two doubles, a triple and a home run for
a perfect 5-for-5 afternoon at the plate. The five hits tied four
others - including teammate Kellen Jarrett who accomplished the
feat at FDU-Florham last Friday - for the most hits in a game. On
the mound, he improved to 6-1 as he went five-plus innings and allowed
five runs (four earned) while fanning five.
Delaware Valley jumped out to an 8-1 lead with three runs in the
second, two in the third and three more in the fourth. In the second,
Isgro knocked in a run with his first double while Zach Chodur and
Dylan Saldutti notched RBI singles. Chodur knocked in another run
in the third while Kevin Weingart drilled a home run over the right
field fence. In the fourth, Weingart doubled in a run and Isgro
followed with a two-run double to left.
The Colonels got back in the gamer and chased Isgro from the mound
in the sixth as they scored four run off of five hits and a pair
of Aggie errors. Chris Mayerski made it an 8-3 ballgame with a two-run
homer, his eighth of the season. After a Brad Woznisky single, Randy
Dengler drove him in with a double. Back-to-back singles and an
error brought in two more runs and a walk loaded the bases with
just one out.
Rob Galdieri came in to face Kyle Follweiler, who entered the game
with a .429 batting average, an .868 slugging percentage and 31
RBIs. The Aggies put a pickoff play on and Galdieri got the runner
on first leaning for the second out of the inning. The junior then
induced Follweiler into a ground out to second to end the threat.
Isgro stayed in as the designated hitter and he drilled a two-out
homer run in the bottom of the sixth to get one of the runs back.
Delaware Valley then put the game away in the seventh as it scored
five times off of four hits and two Colonel miscues. Kyle Bobb beat
out a potential double-play ball to bring in one run while an errant
throw on the play resulted in another. Bobb then scored as Zach
Jakubowski hit his school-record tying eighth triple of the season.
Weingart followed with a single to score Jakubowski and Isgro completed
the cycle by tripling to right-center field and scoring Weingart
for a 14-5 advantage.
The Aggies finished with 18 hits on the day. Weingart went 3-for-5
and tied a school record with four run scored. He was triple shy
of a cycle himself and finished with three RBIs. Chodur and Saldutti
each went 3-for-5 with Chodur scoring two runs and knocking in two.
Dengler, Woznisky, Corey Helfrich and Eric Wetzel had two hits
apiece for Wilkes while Mayerski was 1-for-3 with the home run and
two RBIs. Tom Buckler lasted just two-plus innings and fell to 2-3
on the season.
