FORT PIERCE (FL) - Delaware Valley College moved its record to 3-3
on the season, including a 2-2 mark on its Spring Break trip to
Florida, as the Aggies split a Saturday doubleheader with Western
Connecticut State University. Delaware Valley registered a 12-1
victory before suffering a 6-3 setback in the nightcap.
Senior Dan Metague picked up the win in the opener as he allowed
just one run and four hits over six innings while striking out a
career-high 10 batters.
The Aggies led 2-0 before they broke the game open with four runs
in the fourth, two in the fifth and four more in the sixth. Zach
Jakubowski led the offensive charge as he went 3-for-4 and was just
a home run shy of the cycle. The senior third baseman also knocked
in two runs. Freshman Zach Chodur was 2-for-4, including an RBI
triple while senior Kyle Bobb added two hits in four at-bats.
In the nightcap, sophomores Dylan Saldutti and Brent Terlecky accounted
for Delaware Valley's three runs. Saldutti knocked in a run in the
first with a single while Terlecky drove in a pair with a double
in the fourth. Those two made it a 4-3 ballgame, but Western Connecticut
State came right back with two runs in the fifth, en route to its
first win of the season.
