Utica College 5, Delaware Valley College 3 (Game 2)
FORT PIERCE (FL) - Dan Metague hurled a complete-game, two-hit shutout
as Delaware Valley split a doubleheader with Utica College on the
team's Spring Break trip to Florida. The Aggies took the first game,
12-0, but suffered a 5-3 setback in the nightcap.
Delaware Valley is now 6-5 on the season, including a 5-4 mark
in Florida. The Aggies have one game remaining in the Sunshine State
- a Friday morning meeting with Crown College - before heading back
to Doylestown. The Pioneers saw their record go to 2-5.
Metague, a senior, improved to 2-0 on the year, allowed just a
pair of back-to-back singles in the third inning. However, rightfielder
Mike Isgro gunned a runner down at third base on the second hit
and that was as close as Utica would come to scoring. Metague did
not walk a batter and matched a career high with 10 strikeouts.
Offensively, Kevin Weingart went 3-for-3 with a double and two
runs scored while Zach Jakubowski was 3-for-3 with a triple, two
stolen bases, two runs scored and three RBIs. Travis Roth also had
a big day as the senior catcher went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles
and three RBIs.
The second game saw Delaware Valley victimized by errors and passed
ball, en route to the 5-3 loss. Brian Hafer took the loss despite
allowed just one earned run in four-plus innings of works. Jakubowski
continued his tear by going a perfect 2-for-2 with a double, a stolen
base and an RBI. Isgro was 1-for-2 with an RBI triple.
