Delaware Valley College 10, Penn State Abington 8

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - - Senior third baseman Zach Jakubowski went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to lead Delaware Valley to a 10-8, come-from-behind victory over visiting Penn State Abington in a non-conference game.

Down 2-0, Jakubowski knocked in the Aggies' first run with an infield single in the bottom of the first. However, the Nittany Lions (11-9) responded with a run in the second and two more in the third for a 5-1 advantage.

Jakubowski cut the Delaware Valley (13-7) deficit in half in the bottom of the third as he drove a pitch over the left field fence for his first home run of the season. A Kevin Weingart RBI ground out in the fifth and a Brent Terlecky RBI single in the sixth tied the contest up.

Penn State Abington regained the lead in the top of the seventh as Robert Gianfelice drew a bases-loaded walk. However, Jakubowski and the Aggies took the lead for good in the bottom of the stanza as a Nittany Lion throwing error allowed the tying run to score. Jakubowski then drove a ball to right field for a sacrifice fly and a 7-6 advantage.

Delaware Valley added three runs in the eight as Zach Chodur delivered a two-out, RBI single. Joel Porambo then drilled a triple that scored Chodur and a throwing error also allowed Porambo to score for a 10-6 lead.

The Aggies needed that cushion as Penn State Abington fought back with a pair of runs in the ninth and had the tying runs on second and third with nobody out. Delaware Valley reliever Zach Holm then got a pair of strikeouts with a pop out sandwiched in-between for his second save of the season.

In addition to Jakubowski, Chodur (2-for-3, 3 runs), Porambo (2-for-3) and Dylan Saldutti (2-for-4, 3 runs) had multiple-hit performances for the Aggies. Rob Galdieri (1-0) earned the win in relief.

Alex Bragin and Nicholas Chirverelli had two hits and two RBIs apiece for Penn State Abington. Mark Brown went the first seven innings, allowed seven runs (four earned) and took the loss.
