FORT PIERCE (FL) - Sophomore Mike Isgro hurled a three-hit shutout
in the first game as Delaware Valley College split a doubleheader
with University of Pitt-Greensburg in the Aggies' first action on
their Spring Break trip to Florida. The Aggies notched the 7-0 triumph
in the opener but dropped the nightcap, 5-4.
Delaware Valley, which played two games before the trip, is now
2-2 on the season while Pitt-Greensburg is 3-5.
Isgro, who came out of the bullpen last season, allowed singles
in the first and third innings, en route to his first collegiate
victory. He walked three batters and fanned eight over the seven
innings.
The Aggies scored once in the first and then broke the game open
with a five-run, second inning that was highlighted by a two-run
single by Zach Jakubowski. Jakubowski also knocked in a run with
a triple in the fourth inning as the senior third baseman went a
perfect 4-for-4 with the three RBIs. Kyle Bobb and Travis Roth added
two hits apiece in the win.
The second game looked like Delaware Valley would register the
sweep, but Pitt-Greensburg erased a 4-1 deficit with four runs in
the bottom of the seventh. The Aggies had two costly errors in the
inning and Chad Hoffner ended the contest with a two-out, RBI double
off Jakubowski, who came in to pitch the inning.
Sean Tappan started for Delaware Valley and allowed just one run
over six innings while striking out five. Kevin Weingart was 4-for-4
with a triple and an RBI while Roth and Bobby Oakes were each 2-for-2.
