Manhattanville College 8, Delaware Valley College 4

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - - Manhattanville College moved into first place in the Freedom Conference with Tuesday afternoon's 8-4 triumph at Delaware Valley College.

The Valiants improved to 16-10 overall and 6-4 in the conference as they moved percentage points ahead of idle Arcadia University (7-5). The loss dropped the Aggies into a three-way tie for third place with DeSales University and Wilkes University as they are now 18-10 overall and 5-5 in the Freedom.

The two teams were finally able to get the first of a three-game series in as inclement weather postponed it on two other occasions (they will conclude the series with a doubleheader in Purchase, New York on Sunday, April 20). They were each also coming off long weekends and it showed as nine runs crossed the plate in the first three innings for a 5-4 Manhattaville lead.

The Valiants scored two in the top of the first, including one on an RBI single by Jason Monforte. Delaware Valley answered with two in the bottom of the stanza, including a record-setting hit by senior third baseman Zach Jakubowski. With one on and two outs, Jakubowski ripped the 10th triple of his career to score Kyle Bobb and become the school's all-time leader in the category. He then scored on an RBI single by Mike Isgro.

The Aggies took a 4-2 lead in the second as Bobb knocked a run in with a sacrifice fly and Isgro drew a bases-loaded walk. However, Manhattanville took the lead for good in the third with three runs off of three hits and one Delaware Valley error. A wild pitch brought in one run while a sacrifice fly by Jeff Dunn tied the game. Joe Gallace then delivered a run-scoring single for the lead.

The Valiants padded their lead in the fourth with an unearned run. They then picked took advantage of more Aggie miscues for two more runs in the ninth and an 8-4 final.

Steven Arroyo-Falcon improved to 2-2 on the year as he went six innings and allowed four runs and 10 hits. John Kain did not allow a hit and fanned five over the final three innings for his first save. Pinto finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored while Dunn knocked in a pair of runs.

Jakubowski had a 3-for-4, one RBI afternoon for Delaware Valley while Isgro went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Brian Hafer lasted three innings and took the loss while Chris Albaugh did not allow an earned run in five-plus innings of work out of the bullpen.
