MADISON (NJ) - Freshman rightfielder Kellen Jarrett went 5-for-6
with a double, home run, two runs scored and six RBIs to lead Delaware
Valley College to a 14-8 victory at FDU-Florham in the opening game
of a three-game, Freedom Conference series
The win improved the Aggies to 17-8 overall and 4-3 in the conference
while the Devils saw their record fall to 10-13 overall and 4-7
in league play. The two teams will now meet for a doubleheader in
Doylestown on Saturday.
Jarrett notched six RBIs in his first 35 collegiate at-bats and
he matched that total on Friday while also tying a school record
for hits in a game. He had a single in the first inning and followed
with a run-scoring single in the fifth. Jarrett's two-run homer
in the sixth was the first of his collegiate career and it highlighted
a four-run stanza. In the seventh, he contributed to a five-run
inning with a run-scoring single and ended a day to remember with
a two-run double in the ninth.
Delaware Valley racked up 18 hits on the afternoon and reached
double figures in scoring for the ninth time this season. With the
game tied at 3-3, the Aggies took the lead for good with the four
run in the sixth, but FDU-Florham came right back with three in
the bottom of the inning to trail 7-6.
Delaware Valley then used the five-run seventh inning to create
some breathing room. In addition to Jarrett's RBI in the inning,
Travis Roth notched a two-run double while Dylan Saldutti added
an RBI single. The fifth and final run of the inning scored on a
Devil miscue.
Saldutti finished 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs while
Brent Terlecky was 3-for-5 with two run scored and one RBI. Zach
Chodur had a 2-for-3, three-run outing.
Starting pitcher Mike Isgro improved to 5-1 in the year as he went
five-plus innings and allowed six runs and six hits while striking
out five. The sophomore also helped his own cause with his first
collegiate home run, a solo shot to start the sixth inning. Brian
Hafer earned his second save as he went three-plus innings and gave
up two runs and three hits while fanning five.
Greg Geran went 3-for-5 with two RBIs while Dan Pregno was 1-for-4
with three RBIs for the Devils. Larry Fabrizio took the loss as
he went five-plus innings and allowed seven runs and 12 hits.
