Earlham College 8, Delaware Valley 7 (Game 2)
FORT PIERCE (FL) - Mike Isgro delivered another complete-game victory
as Delaware Valley split a doubleheader with Earlham College on
Wednesday. Isgro and the Aggies took the opener, 4-2, before dropping
an 8-7 decision in the nightcap.
Delaware Valley is now 5-4 overall, including a 4-3 mark on the
team's Spring Break trip to Florida. The Aggies have three games
remaining before they head back to Doylestown. The split kept the
Quakers at .500 at 6-6.
Isgro, the reigning Freedom Conference Pitcher of the Week, hurled
a three-hit shutout in last Friday's 7-0 triumph over Pitt-Greensburg
to start the trip. The sophomore returned to the mound on Wednesday
and once again went the full seven innings. Isgro allowed two runs
on five hits and struck out a career-high 10 batters to improve
to 2-0 on the season.
Delaware Valley scored two runs in the fourth and added two more
in the fifth. Zack Jakubowski knocked in the eventual game-winner
with a single in the fifth. All nine starters in the Aggie lineup
had one hit in the contest.
The second game saw Delaware Valley hold a four-run advantage until
Earlham scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning to take
the lead for good. A costly Aggie error keyed the big inning.
Kevin Weingart went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Jakubowski
added two hits and knocked in a run. Travis Roth was 1-for-3 with
a pair of RBIs and Joel Porambo had two hits, including a double
for the Aggies. Sean Tappan started and took the loss.
