Delaware Valley College 6, DeSales University 1 (Game 2)

CENTER VALLEY (PA) - Sean Tappan did not allow an earned run in six-plus innings of work as Delaware Valley College posted a 6-1 victory in the nightcap to earn a split of a Freedom Conference doubleheader with host De Sales University. The Bulldogs took the first game by a 6-4 score.

The split left the Aggies with a 14-8 overall record and 2-3 mark in the conference while DeSales moved its marks to 12-11 and 5-3. The two teams will complete their three-game series on Monday (3:30 p.m.) with a nine-inning contest in Doylestown.

Tappan, a sophomore, improved his record to 3-3 on the season as he worked into the seventh inning and allowed an unearned run and six hits. He walked two batters and struck out eight. Rob Galdieri came in and got the remaining two outs of the contest.

Delaware Valley jumped on DeSales starter Charles Swenson for three runs in the first inning. Dylan Saldutti opened the game with a double and, following an out, advanced to third as Kevin Weingart reached on an error. Weingart then moved into scoring position with a stolen base of his own. After a strikeout, senior first baseman Kyle Bobb delivered a two-run single to left and moved to second on the throw. Bobb then scored on Brent Terleck's RBI single to left.

The Bulldogs got one back in the bottom of the first, but the Aggies added single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings for the 6-1 final. Salduttin produced RBI singles in both the fourth and sixth innings while Porambo brought Bobb home with a run-scoring single in the seventh.

Saldutti finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Bobb was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Porambo and Mike Isgro had two hits apiece in the win.

Isgro started the opener for the Aggies, but suffered his first defeat of the season after four straight victories. He allowed six runs (five earned) and eight hits and also walked six batters in six innings of work.

DeSales took a 2-0 lead with a pair of run in the second inning. Delaware Valley tied it up in the fourth on RBIs by Terlecky and Kellen Jarrett. However, the Bulldogs regained the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run triple by Nick Repas.

The Aggies made it a one-run game in the fifth as Zach Jakubowski picked up his 32nd RBI of the year on a ground out. But in the sixth, Repas came through again for DeSales, this time with an RBI single. Repas then scored on an RBI single by Ryan Blacker for a 6-3 advantage.

Delaware Valley managed one run off a Bulldog error in the seventh and had the tying runs on first and third with two outs. However, Joe Walsh picked up his fourth save of the year as he got Travis Roth to ground out to second to end the game.

Jeffrey Pinto picked up the win in relief while Repas finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Zach Chodur led the Aggie offense with two hits and a run scored.
