Delaware Valley 6, Wilkes University 3 (Game 2)
KINGSTON (PA) - Chris White earned a complete-game victory in the
nightcap as Delaware Valley College split a Freedom Conference doubleheader
at Wilkes University. The Colonels took the opener, 8-0, but the
Aggies bounced back with a 6-3 triumph in game two.
Delaware Valley, which lost the opener of the three-game series
on Friday, moved its record to 10-13 overall and 2-8 in the conference.
Wilkes saw its record go to 10-11-2 overall and 5-10 in Freedom
action.
The Aggies scored their first runs of the series with a two spot
in the first inning of the nightcap and they never relinquished
the lead. George Higginson opened with a walked and later scored
on Kevin Weingart's single. Weingart then scored on an RBI single
by Kyle Bobb.
Wilkes scored a run in the second inning and both teams notched
single tallies in the third for a 3-2 Delaware Valley advantage.
Kris Hazlett knocked in the Aggies' run with a double that plated
Weingart.
Delaware Valley took advantage of a key Wilkes error in the fifth
to score three times and gain some breathing room. With two outs,
John Persicketti and Hazlett both singled. Bobb then hit a ground
ball that was fielded and thrown away, allowing Persicketti to score.
Steve Kinney extended the inning with a single that scored Hazlett
and made it 5-2. A double by Charlie DiNolfi plated Bobb and gave
the Aggies a 6-2 lead.
That was all White needed as the junior improved to 2-3 on the
season. He went the full seven innings and allowed three runs (two
earned) and four hits while striking out five. Hazlett, Kinney and
Weingart each had two hits in the second game with Weingart also
scoring two times.
The opener saw Colonel starter Kevin Konschak throw a gem as he
allowed just a first inning single by Higginson and a third inning
single by Kinney. He walked two and fanned third en route to improving
his record to 4-0.
Wilkes scored five times in the first inning thanks to three hits,
two walks and one Delaware Valley error. The Colonels then added
single runs in the second, third and fourth stanzas for the 8-0
final. Dan Metague lasted just one inning and took the loss as he
fell to 2-3.
