Delaware Valley 4, Moravian College 3

DOYLESTOWN (PA) - Freshman Joe Cione pitched eight strong innings to pick up his second win of the season and sophomore designated hitter Travis Roth knocked in the eventual game-winning run in the eighth inning as Delaware Valley College edged visiting Moravian College, 4-3, in a non-conference game.

The win was the second straight for the Aggies as they got back to the .500 mark with a 13-13 record. The Greyhounds fell to 7-20 with the loss.

Cione allowed three runs (two earned) and six hits in eight innings of work. He walked two and fanned a pair of Moravian batters as he improved to 2-2 on the year.

With the game tied at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the eighth, freshman first baseman Kyle Bobb led off the stanza with a single to center. One out later and with Bobb running on the pitch, Roth smacked one to inside the right field foul line. Bobb came around to score and Roth reached second for a double and his second RBI of the game. He was 2-for-3 in the contest.

Nick Rozdilski came in from the bullpen to pitch the ninth and the junior retired the Greyhounds in order for his first save of the season.

Delaware Valley hit the scoreboard in the first inning as senior third baseman Ryan Burza hit a two-out triple to right-center field to score Austin Rickrode. Moravian tied it up in the third as two Aggie errors led to an unearned run.

The Aggies came back in the bottom of the fourth to score twice and take a 3-1 advantage. Bobb led off with a walk and moved to third on sophomore second baseman Bill Cahill's double. Roth then singled to right to score Bobb and junior centerfielder Jeff Pochron followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Cahill.

It stayed 3-1 until the sixth when Moravian scored two runs on three hits. Adam Goetz notched a one-out single and came around to score on Steve Tomaszewski's RBI double to right-center. Tomaszewski moved up to third on a ground out and Chris Clancy drove him in with a single to left. That set the stage for Roth's eighth-inning heroics and the Delaware Valley victory.

In addition to Roth, Cahill finished with two hits as he went 2-for-4. Bobb went 1-for-3 and scored a pair of runs while Burza was 1-for-3 with the RBI triple.

Andrew Wach (0-2) pitched a strong game for Moravian as he went seven-plus innings and allowed four runs and nine hits. He walked four and struck out two. Tomaszewski was the lone Greyhound to have a multiple-hit game as he went 2-for-4.
