BASEBALL: Delaware Valley 9, Penn State-Altoona 0

FORT PIERCE (FL) - Junior first baseman Mark Roth went 3-3 with a home run and five RBIs while Mick Bigwood pitched an eight-hit shutout as Delaware Valley College blanked Penn State-Altoona, 9-0, in Florida.

Roth doubled home a run in the first and knocked a run in with a single in the second as the Aggies (6-1) took a 4-0 lead. He then delivered the big blow in the fourth as his three-run homer gave the team an 8-0 lead. it was Roth's first home run of the season.

Delaware Valley did most of its damage against Penn State-Altoona starter Luke Diehl, who earlier in the week threw a no-hitter and struck out 18 Pitt-Greenburg batters. Diehl last just three-plus innings and gave up eight runs (five earned) and seven hits.

Meanwhile, Bigwood improved to 2-0 on the young season as the sophomore went the full seven innings and did not walk a batter while striking out seven. The Aggie defense backed him up with three double plays, all in the first three innings of the game.

Ken Keiffer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs while A.J. DeNardo went 1-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored.
