BASEBALL: Delaware Valley 9, Penn State-Altoona

FORT PIERCE (FL) - Junior first baseman Mark Roth went 3-3 with
a home run and five RBIs while Mick Bigwood pitched an eight-hit
shutout as Delaware Valley College blanked Penn State-Altoona, 9-0,
in Florida.
Roth doubled home a run in the first and knocked a run in with
a single in the second as the Aggies (6-1) took a 4-0 lead. He then
delivered the big blow in the fourth as his three-run homer gave
the team an 8-0 lead. it was Roth's first home run of the season.
Delaware Valley did most of its damage against Penn State-Altoona
starter Luke Diehl, who earlier in the week threw a no-hitter and
struck out 18 Pitt-Greenburg batters. Diehl last just three-plus
innings and gave up eight runs (five earned) and seven hits.
Meanwhile, Bigwood improved to 2-0 on the young season as the sophomore
went the full seven innings and did not walk a batter while striking
out seven. The Aggie defense backed him up with three double plays,
all in the first three innings of the game.
Ken Keiffer went 2-for-3 with three RBIs while A.J. DeNardo went
1-for-3 with a triple and three runs scored. |
