This is about 2 New Jerseyans who were DelVal students during very different times. Both have an established history of involvement as students and a commitment to give back as alumni. One served DelVal for 6 years as DelVal’s Alumni Association President and is passing the torch to the new DelVal Alumni Association President. They both love DelVal and you’ll learn more about them in this news from the Alumni Association–Peter Duane ’72, outgoing Association President and Melissa Roseman ’08 MBA ’10, incoming Association President.
Moving from undergraduate, continuing education, or graduate students to alumni is a process that DelVal students go through every semester. Opportunities for alumni to volunteer their time are plentiful and help enrich the DVU community and the life of the alumni. Participating with the Alumni Association is just one example. During Homecoming weekend in October 2015, Peter presided over the meeting where the results of the election were announced at the Annual Alumni Association Meeting held in the beautiful Joseph F. Umosella '63 Atrium of the Life Sciences Building.
First, meet outgoing Association President, Peter Duane ’72. Hailing from northern New Jersey, Peter began his academic career at DelVal in September 1968. Studying Business Administration, he made lifetime friends – some very dear friends he has known for 40+ years. He lettered in Varsity Cross Country and Track his freshman year, and participated in intramural track and the Administrative Management Association.
Peter shared that “when my friends and I get together several times a year, we reminisce about the years at DelVal. It was a lot of hard work with academics but there certainly were a lot of good times as well.” He felt that DelVal shaped him and served as a positive non-family influence on who he is today. Since he graduated, Peter has had several careers but most recently have been employed 18½ years as a Product Materials Specialist with Avnet, Inc., a global leader in electronic component distribution, supply chain management services, and computer hardware products and software.
Peter passed the torch of the DelVal Alumni Association Presidency to our incoming Alumni Association President, Melissa Roseman ’08, MBA ’10. A self-described “Jersey Girl”, Melissa began her collegiate career in 2004 and immediately engulfed in the world of Bucks County. As an undergraduate, Melissa was a Zoo Science major in the Animal Biotechnology and Conservation Department. She continued her DelVal education with an MBA in General Business. As you can imagine, DelVal became her “home away from home.” Based on the wonderful opportunities experienced at DelVal, currently, Melissa is a Sales Professional for Sanofi US, a major pharmaceutical company based out of Bridgewater, NJ.
Taking the time to give back exemplifies the pride that Peter and Melissa have for DelVal. Since graduating from DelVal and during his 6 years as President of DelVal Alumni Association, Peter has had the distinct pleasure to meet and get to know many alumni crossing a diverse professional spectrum. In his experience, the legacy of DVU and all the names before that, is well-known throughout the United States and the world. DVU graduates are pursued by industry and to be a part of that DelVal legacy is inspiring and makes him very proud to be an “Aggie.”
Equally beaming with pride is Melissa who described the uniqueness and passion that every member of the DVU community exudes. She has been blessed to meet the most amazing people, network with current students and faculty, and grow within our alumni association. Melissa was motivated to serve as Alumni Association President to mature within the association and take on a leadership opportunity. She said “I wanted to serve as their vision of the future of DVU.” Melissa presided over her first Alumni Executive Committee meeting on February 20, 2016 with returning and new members.
As always, we welcome participation from fellow alumni as our association continues to grow along with Delaware Valley University. Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter – @delval_alumassn. Let us know you’re an Aggie and we’ll definitely follow you back.
