“Thanks to the education, real-world experience and networking opportunities with which DelVal equipped me, my dreams have become a reality.”

Melanie Welsh, a 2015 business administration and marketing graduate, credits DelVal with helping to grow and shape her resume and for the networking opportunity to land her first job.

“Within one month of graduation, I landed a job as the associate producer in the local media development department at Comcast headquarters,” said Welsh. “It was at the Watson Executive-in-Residence event [at DelVal] that Dr. Thomas W. Watson ’57 introduced me to Comcast SVP Sheila Willard, which led to me securing a position with Comcast.”

Welsh, a representative on the alumni executive committee, stresses the value in experiential learning at DelVal.

“I think the best part about DelVal is that it requires every student to have had real-world experience prior to graduation,” she said. “This pushes students who wouldn’t ordinarily seek out internship opportunities and helps them to build their resumes.”

Resume building opportunities, including internships, career exploration, study abroad and more all play a part of The Experience360 Program (E360). E360 is central to a DelVal education and embraces a full range of activities and opportunities that give our students well-rounded experiences that can’t be found anywhere else.

“The resume that DelVal helped me to build has served me well in my career,” said Welsh. “I have a wide variety of experiences at which to point. I gained leadership experience on campus and experience in the financial, marketing and startup industries in my internships.”

Welsh was initially attracted to the small student-faculty ratio where she would be more than just a number. In doing so, she formed relevant relationships that would aide her career.

“The professors at DelVal genuinely care about the success of their students,” said Welsh. “I found some incredible mentors in my professors. They believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself.”
