Standardbred Mares
The Sydney J. Markovitz Standardbred Center is home to an average of 25 broodmares, which are purchased or taken on donation basis.
All donations can be considered a tax write-off. If you are interested in donating a suitable horse to our program please contact Marta Piotrow, Standardbred Manager, for further information.
Broodmares in the program are bred by students enrolled in the Mare and Foal Management course during their junior or senior year. Students in the Mare and Foal Management and Neonate Management courses assist with foaling of assigned mares and are responsible for pre-foaling, post-foaling, and neonatal care of both the mare and the foal.
