Bruce Richards grew up on a four generation Jersey farm in Utah.  He attended Utah State University for his undergraduate degree in dairy science.  He continued at Utah State for his master’s degree in dairy science studying the effects of a high forage diet with a pound of fat added to dairy cows during early lactation.

Dr. Richards earned his doctorate at the University of Illinois researching controlled energy diets fed throughout the dry period to dairy cows under the direction of Dr. James Drackley.  While working on his doctorate, he also worked as a teaching assistant to Dr. Michael Hutjens, helping with online dairy courses.

Dr. Richards currently teaches Principles of Animal Nutrition, Animal Feeding and Nutrition, Principles of Dairy Science, Dairy Systems and Management, and co-teaches Introduction to Animal Science.  He is co-advisor to the Dairy Society and coaches the Dairy Challenge team.
