Take ‘local’ food to a new level

Take “local” to a new level and produce the products you need at home. Three new courses to help consumers produce products they need in their own yards are being offered this fall at Delaware Valley College’s Roth Center for Sustainable Agriculture through the College’s Office of Continuing Education. Courses include:

The Home Egg Layer Flock: This five-session course is designed to teach the beginner how to select, acquire, house, grow, and care for chickens in the small home flock. Occasional meetings at alternate locations for on-site observations will be required.

Drying and Canning Your Harvest: In this four-session course, learn to preserve your harvest by drying or canning. Learn how to preserve fruits and berries by making jelly or jam.

Introduction to Urban and Suburban Goat Production
In this six-session course, you will learn to raise goats in urban and suburban settings. You will also learn to understand your market and how to find consumers for your goats’ products. Discover how to better use your own resources to fit your operation’s needs. This is a basic-level course tailored to the wants and needs of the students.
