Delaware Valley College offers new Social Media Certificate
People are spending more time on social networks than on any other category of sites according to the 2012 Nielsen U.S. Social Media Survey. Social media use accounts for 20 percent of users’ time online on computers and 30 percent of their online time on mobile devices.
With two-thirds of Americans who use the Internet becoming active on Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, or another social platform, businesses are recognizing social media as a powerful tool. People trained in social media are becoming increasingly valuable for businesses, nonprofits, public relations, and more.
DelVal is offering a new Social Media Management Certificate to respond to the growing demand for people who are skilled in social media.
Participants must register for the continuing education program by Jan. 21. The series is open to current DelVal students as well as the general public.
The series includes three six-week courses: Essentials of Social Media, Applied Social Media Management, and Social Media in Professional Practice. Those interested in enrolling are welcome to register for one to three classes. Those completing all three classes will earn a certificate. All classes are held in the evening.
The program is designed for: business leaders, professionals, small business owners, executives, human resource professionals, marketing and communications professionals, educators, and more.
Participants will learn about today’s dominant social media platforms such as: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, YouTube, Foursquare, Pinterest, Instagram, and blogging programs.
They will also learn how social media can be used to meet a business or organization’s goals and apply what they learn by developing a social media strategy for an organization.
The program also covers practical tools for integrating multiple social media platforms and measuring impact.
“Employers are expecting candidates to be familiar with social media,” said Chuck Hall, who will teach the program. “Getting certified in social media can help professionals gain valuable and in-demand knowledge that can help them advance in a variety of fields.”
Hall is a marketing professional with more than 25 years of management and leadership experience. He is the founder of Your Marketing Exec, LLC, a Doylestown-based marketing company. Hall is also a founding member of the SoMeBizLife, a social networking-consulting firm based in Doylestown, Pa., which offers social media conferences, speakers, and other events.
